The Way to Eat
A Lecture by David Katz, M.D.

Dr. David Katz, Associate Professor at the Yale School of Public Health, will outline his healthy eating program at a free public meeting of the Connecticut Holistic Health Association at the New Haven Free Public Library at 6:30 on Wednesday, February 11th.

According to Dr. Katz, we can stop dieting and lead longer, healthier lives by developing healthier eating habits. The key to learning how to eat is to realize how powerfully our past predisposes us to overeating. Dr. Katz says that human beings as a species developed in a world where getting enough to eat was always a challenge. As a result of this biological fact, we just aren’t able to cope with our tantalizing rich food world.

Once we recognize the biological forces pushing us to eat too much of the wrong foods, we can follow Dr. Katz’s program which, in a sense, fools our bodies into feeling full most of the time. Here are a few of his tips: eat healthy snacks to fight cravings, limit the different flavors in your meals, watch out for salty and sugary commercial snacks and finally educate your taste buds gradually by changing the way you cook.

Dr. Katz has recently published a book called The Way to Eat in which he outlines his approach to healthy eating. Dr. Katz is a weekly columnist on health issues for several newspapers including the New Haven Register.

What Does Your Body Know about Color?
You'd be Surprised! A lecture by Pat Barry, PhD, APRN

We’re all curious about cellular memories and their effects on our bodies. What do we do with cellular memories? Is there a way to safely work with them?

Regardless of your background, you will find this information about relieving deeply buried memories helpful in your own self-care. Frozen emotion is at the heart of many physical and mental ailments.

Learn surprising new information about how the body translates all emotional memories, both good and bad, into layers of emotions in the body. Each emotion has its own unique color and its own specific physical effects.

If you’d like to participate, you’ll have an opportunity during this evening program to learn a new tool you can use quickly and easily in seconds to relieve stress and calm your body.

___________

Dr. Pat Barry, a Yale-trained psychotherapist, created the Color Breathwork Method, a unique form of meditation for her psychoneuroimmunology research on the physical effects of different types of stress. Pat is an advanced practice registered nurse with 20 years’ experience as a psychotherapist in West Hartford, CT. The Healing Power of Art with Rea Nurmi

The goal of the work is to provoke a state of wellness in the viewer; be it patient, medical staff, or guests. "Healing Walls", simply means that the beauty of the mural work that Rea creates in medical facilities or elsewhere, results in an environmental contribution to a healing state of consciousness for patients and medical staff alike. Beauty makes one feel better and therefore compliments medical treatments.

Rea Nurmi came to US from Finland 30 years ago. Her university training in Finland was in engineering and electronic design. A 15 year electronic design career ended when Rea returned to her first love, art, as a full-time artist. The past 15 years as an artist has seen Rea 's work both public and studio work celebrated everywhere from the New York Times to numerous exhibits both here in the US and in Europe. Her mural work can be seen in hospitals in New Haven, Conn., Florence, Italy, Helsinki, Finland and many other locations to numerous to mention. Her web site: www.mindcycle.com/reanurmi gives an in-depth look at her work.

Artwork from local artists will be on display during this talk.
