SPIRITUALITY AND SEX

Center for Healing & Recovery
650 Danbury Road, Ridgefield CT 06877
www.CenterforHealingandRecovery.com
203-438-3007

Tennessee Williams said “The opposite of death is desire…”

Spirituality and sex are intimately and irrevocably linked. Our body, minds and souls unite during sex and connect us to the divine Universe in a way that no other spiritual work can. Most of the spiritual practices today focus on the "upper" chakras, taking us out of our bodies and away from the physical. Other practices, yoga, psychotherapy and body work, in our Westernized versions, have eliminated the sexual connection to the self and many times skip over the sensual altogether. This presentation will remind us how to incorporate our sexuality into our spiritual practice, helping us to connect to each other and to the spirit of our partners through a deep appreciation of sexuality and the importance of understanding our spirit; body, mind and soul.

Using examples of couples work, this presentation will show how sensuality exercises can begin the reconnection experience; physically, emotionally and spiritually. Commitment to safety and respect by the presenter is inherent during this presentation, and will help maintain the feeling of safety that is paramount to the work necessary when discussing sexual context.

Tammy Nelson is Executive Director of the Center for Healing & Recovery, a holistic psychotherapy and wellness center, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Art Therapist, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Certified Imago Relationships Therapist. In private practice since 1995, she specializes in treating couples and is an expert in working with sexual intimacy issues, body image disturbances and eating disorders. Her recent work with Eve Ensler's Broadway play "The Good Body" at the Red Tent Installation in NY included workshops entitled "Mandalas as Symbols for the Self." Tammy is also a writer and author of the book, "What's Eating You? A Workbook for Teens Who have Trouble With Food", InstantHelpBooks (2005). Tammy currently presents on her new book, "Passionate Partnerships: A Guide For Couples," due out this year.

The Power of Intuition and the
Positive Energy to Heal:
An Evening with Judith Orloff, MD

You possess an innate intuitive intelligence so powerful that it can tell you how to heal and prevent illness. Judith Orloff, MD, a pioneer in the new field of Energy Psychiatry shows how to reclaim this intelligence. She passionately believes that the future of medicine lies in using intuition to access your body’s subtle energies for greater wellness. This sacred energy is with you at birth, throughout life and continues after death – a marker of your soul’s journey. You can learn to draw upon it.

This talk, based on Dr. Orloff’s new book, Positive Energy, offers practical ways to increase total wellbeing. You’ll discover how to:

· Use intuition to access energies from physical to spiritual
· Read energy fields
· Combat “energy vampires,” people who drain you
· Avoid fatigue by not absorbing people’s pain or negativity
· Prevent energy defensive eating, a major reason diets fail
· Prevent energetic overload and exhaustion from being in crowds
· Maintain your body’s physical health and subtle energy system

Too many of us walk around exhausted, irritable, or stressed out by the pressures of daily life and the demands we put on ourselves. There is a better, easier way to live and it’s available to you now. Let Dr. Judith Orloff show you ways to reconnect with subtle energies in daily life to become more joyful and healthy. For more information about Judith Orloff M.D. visit www.drjudithorloff.com.

Three Pathways to Healing
with Nancy Humphreys, LPC & Richard Pecoroni, LPC

and

A Holistic Approach to Pain Management:
with Lou Paradise, CEO & Researcher, Topical BioMedics, Inc.

Awareness and energy are interrelated. When awareness is unfocused and bound up in unknown feelings and thoughts, the energy flow in the body is blocked causing discomfort and possibly disease. Gestalt therapy is a dynamic, holistic, and experiential therapy. The goal is the appreciation and integration of all aspects of the self. Focusing on here-and-now awareness and interaction is a means of integrating past experiences, the present, and movement into the future.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a humanistic, action-oriented approach to emotional growth which emphasizes the individual’s capacity for creating one’s emotions by changing one’s thoughts and the power to choose and implement satisfying alternatives to current life challenges. A combination of Gestalt therapy, REBT, and Energy Healing helps one to free oneself from energy blocks physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

We will present an introduction to awareness and contact with oneself on all levels in order to promote change and wellness through the use of Gestalt therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, and Energy Healing. Being fully present in the moment encourages each individual’s potential for creativity, growth, and change

Nancy D. Humphreys, MS, MSW, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counseling with 26 years experience. She specializes in the mind/body/spirit connection by combining traditional counseling and psychotherapy with energy healing. She holds Master Degrees in Counseling and Social Work and is a graduate of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing as well as a graduate of the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy and is a Certified Gestalt Therapist. Her private practice, Pathways to Potential™, LLC is located in Fairfield County, Connecticut and Manhattan, NY, where she works with individuals and groups helping them to reach their potential.

Richard W. Pecoroni, MA, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 32 years of experience. He holds a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and is a current Fellow at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York where he runs workshops, gives seminars, does research, and from time to time, assists Dr. Albert Ellis with his famous Friday Night Workshops. In addition, he sees clients in both individual and group settings specializing in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy [REBT] and Addictions Counseling. He and Nancy are partners in their private practice, Pathways to Potential™, LLC.

A Holistic Approach to Pain Management:
with Lou Paradise, CEO & Researcher, Topical BioMedics, Inc.

Lou Paradise is a decorated Marine Corps Veteran, CEO of Topical BioMedics, Inc., and researcher of natural medicines for relieving pain associated with soft tissue and nerve related injuries, e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome. He will discuss the pain cycle and his research findings on the use of homeopathic medicines in topical solution for managing pain associated with acute injuries and chronic conditions. Topical BioMedics, Inc. specializes in research and development of topical medicines, e.g., Topricin CTS. The corporation is located in Rhinebeck, NY.

"Solutions to Life", the company's popular call-in talk radio program has been broadcast in Boston on WRPT, in Poughkeepsie, NY on WEOK, and in Manhattan on WEVD and WWRL, and most recently heard in NJ on 99.7FM WJUX. Lou Paradise host a balanced educational forum helping persons in pain to seek medical attention and use homeopathic products as part of an overall health regimen.

A Journey into Healing through Dreamwork
with Wanda Easter Burch
author of
She Who Dreams: A Journey into Healing through Dreamwork

Through the telling of one woman’s story, her own, Wanda Burch describes how we can use our dreams to discover or build more creative relationships, draw on energy and guidance from deeper sources, and connect with the deeper story of our lives, and even self diagnose and self-heal major illness. Wanda was always a dreamer, and her grandmother believed in the power of dreams and encouraged her to pay attention to her dreams. She had dreamed that she would die at a certain age. Her dreams foretold her diagnosis of breast cancer, and then guided her toward treatment and wellness. She tells an amazing story of one dream in which she renegotiated her life contract, choosing to live longer and not to die, but not without cost. Her message is that wisdom lives within each of us, and we can tap into that wisdom with some guidance. Wanda writes “within each of us lies the ability to rise above the challenges of our lives and choose our own ways of living, of healing.”

Wanda Burch is a long-term survivor (14 years) of breast cancer who has always had a vibrant dream life. She works with Robert Moss, author of Conscious Dreaming. She also gives seminars and workshops on dreams and works closely with support groups, churches, and cancer organizations to teach women about healing practices. Her other work involves historical preservation, and she has extensive experience in facilitating groups for historical societies, women’s organizations, and support groups. She lives in Fultonville, New York.

The evening will begin with networking/social time followed by our speaker.

On the Stage of Holistic Health with Lucille Kinlein, C.P.K.

The world of holistic health has met the world of traditional medicine. The public now has access to information formerly held only by doctors, and they are seeking out different approaches to maintaining good health. With the public’s focus on more unified, holistic approaches to their own health and well-being, how are health care professionals responding to this movement? Professor Lucille Kinlein, founder of a new health care profession (Esca), and a pioneer in the holistic health field, will share her thoughts on this and her vision of the future of the health care field. Kinlein will discuss how the views a person has in regard to themselves and the way of life that they follow play a vital part in the maintenance of a state of health. The way you view yourself is likely to be profoundly changed by the end of this evening’s program!

Lucille Kinlein, in 1971, founded the First Professional Practice Discipline in the Field of Philosophy Applied in Living Life. As founder of the theory of moving in Esca in living life on a day to day basis, she has authored 5 books and been a visiting professor at universities in 45 states. She was a pioneer in the health care field in separating from the “medical model” to establish an independent practice 32 years ago to “care with clients” vs. care for patients.

Honoring the Secret Wishes of the Soul: Explore the Healing Gifts of Active Dreaming with Robert Moss
The ancient dream healers understood that we are often out of touch, in our surface mind, with what we truly desire, on the level of heart and soul. If we fail to follow the secredt wishes of the soul, part of our vital energy goes away. We become prone to illness and depression; we lose our magic. Through dreams, in which we may travel far beyond the body and the physical plane, we find our soul mates and our soul's purpose. By celebrating our dreams and helping them to take root in the world, we become whole and well, and live to our deeper story.

In this high-energy, fun-packed introduction to the core techniques of Active Dreaming - Robert Moss's original synthesis of modern dreamwork and ancient shamanism - learn to find and fulfill your heart's desires with the help of a warm and supportive circle. Learn a fun, fast way to share dreams and take creative action to bring their energy and insight into waking life that you can practice anywhere, anytime. Discover how to use dreams for guidance and healing, how to dream the future and change it for the better, how to free the creator and healer in you - and live a life filled with natural magic.
